Increased hemolysis rate in plasma tubes after implementation of a fully automated sample delivery and acceptance system

Abstract Objectives Automated sample delivery and laboratory acceptance systems (PTAS) may influence the hemolysis rate of blood samples due to g-forces, abrupt acceleration, rapid deceleration. However, quantitative data regarding in PTAS is limited. To fill this void, effect a pneumatic tube combination with an system on was investigated study. Methods Lithium heparin plasma tubes were transported from different clinical departments hospital’s (a) by employees or (b) automated analyzed for presence based index (HI) >25. Hemolysis indices 68.513 retrieved information before after installation subjected statistical analysis. Results A total 32.614 employees, which 3.815 (11.70%) hemolytic, 9.441 out 35.899 delivered (26.30%) hemolytic. After implementation PTAS, rates increased all departments. Conclusions are associated rates. This has implications routine patient management should be considered transportation used determination hemolysis-sensitive parameters.
